What is Mindfulness?

Wheel

In The Wheel of Life, the rim, which holds the spokes, refers to mindfulness which holds everything together

Mindfulness is...

Wherever you go, there you are." Jon Kabat-Zinn

"Life is one breath at a time."

"We only have this very moment - what can I do right now?"

Mindfulness is living in the present. It is awareness, attentiveness, and appreciation of each moment. Being open to the present is an invitation for growth. The experiences today in our lives beckon us forward along our path. It is the practice of being "here".

According to the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, Institute of Medical and Social Care Research, University of Wales, Bangor, “mindfulness is the development of the ability to pay deliberate attention to our experience from moment to moment, to what is going on in our mind, body and day to day life and doing this without judgment. Many people report finding inner strengths and resources that help them make wise decisions about their health and life in general. Mindfulness can help us to work directly with the struggle we sometimes have in relating to life's experience and in doing so can dramatically improve the quality of our life."

"Research shows evidence that mindfulness can increase life enjoyment, improve the ability to cope with illness, and improve physical and emotional health."
